Parts of the UK are braced for blizzards and up to 20cm of snow today in the wake of Storm Ciara - as Greater Manchester wakes up to more flood warnings.

Some areas saw a month and a half's rainfall in just 24 hours and gusts of more than 90 miles per hour swept across the country on Sunday, bringing widespread flooding.

Thousands of people were left without power, some homes were evacuated, buildings were damaged and sporting occasions postponed - including Manchester City's home game against West Ham.

The Environment Agency says flood warnings are still in place on the Irwell between Bury and Radcliffe and the Mersey between Northenden, East Didsbury and Burnage.

There are also flood warnings for the Mersey in Warrington, as well of a string of flood warnings along the Ribble Valley in Lancashire and the Aire, Calder and Colne rivers in West Yorkshire - Hebden Bridge is again mopping up after severe flooding hit the town centre.

Residents were evacuated from parts of Bury on Sunday as river levels peaked - but Bury Council now says the flood risk is 'rapidly reducing.

They say the Environment Agency and council teams have been out throughout the night monitoring river levels, cleaning up debris and fallen treens.

Gritters have also been out roads around Greater Manchester as freezing temperatures are forecast over the coming days.

The Environment Agency says its less severe 'flood alert' warning is still in place for all stretches of the Mersey and the Irwell through Greater Manchester.

A Met Office amber weather warning for wind, which had been in place across most of England, elapsed at 9pm Sunday as Storm Ciara moved away to the north-east of Scotland.

But a yellow warning for wind remained in force for the whole UK until midnight, with strong winds, heavy showers, snow and ice expected on Monday.

We'll have the latest on the flood warnings, the weather forecast and the traffic and travel situation throughout the day...
