Local Skip Hire and Waste Management Companies

Salford residents have banded together to repair the damage done to their community centre by reckless vandals.

Last month the Boothstown Community Centre in Worsley was found with destroyed hanging baskets, smashed bedding plant boxes and planters had been ripped off the walls of the cherished community centre.

The vandals also caused more than £1,000 worth of damage to the plant watering system of the building.

The community centre is a well loved and well used local facility that hosts many regular events for residents and is managed by Salford Community Leisure.

Danielle Tudor is the leisure manager for Salford Community Leisure and was devastated when she received the call about the vandalism.

She took to the Boothstown Community Facebook page and asked for help from businesses and residents to help restore the community centre's plants and flowers back to their former glory.

The post received hundreds of comments with people expressing their anger and offering to help repair the mindless damage.

A justgiving page was created for donations and Danielle used the funds to buy materials.

Vandals had ripped down the hanging baskets at the centre

"I still can't believe how fast the community rallied to help." Danielle said.

"It was horrible to hear the news of the destruction but the community has prevailed and come out stronger and on behalf of Salford Community Leisure.

"I'd like to say thank you to everyone for their support and well wishes."

Local councillors Jillian Collinson, Darren Ward and Bob Clarke all vowed their support to the cause driving donations and calling for local businesses to help.

The call was heard loud and clear and local businesses such as Broadoak Garden Centre in Worsley came to the rescue by providing flowers and plants, a team from a local joinery in Worsley built new planters free of charge and even RHS Garden Bridgewater has pledged its support in the near future once they are open.

It was a community effort to restore the centre's flower displays back to their glory

Councillor David Lancaster, Salford city council's lead member for environment and community safety, said: "Hundreds of people use Boothstown Community Centre every week.

"It’s an outstanding local facility and it’s very sad that a group of individuals decided to vandalise it.

"We were delighted to witness so many volunteers and business came forward in a very short space of time and worked hard to restore the plants, flowers and garden area back to its former glory.

"Community spirit is strong in Salford and we thank everyone that took part in the clean up and hope that people continue to use the community centre for many years to come.”
